8 Ways to Save Money at Home Depot and HomeDepot.com

A do quite a bit of shopping at Home Depot.  Over the years, I've learned a few ways to occasionally trim my home improvement material costs.  Besides the scrap wood bin (which I check regularly), here are a few ways to save at Home Depot and HomeDepot.com.

1. Register (for free) at homedepotmoving.com (this is run by Home Depot) for 10% off on purchases up to $2,000

2. Register (for free) at eBates and receive 3% cash back from Home Depot

3. Register (for free) at Upromise and receive 3% for college savings

4. Check deal sites for any current coupon codes.  Slickdeals.com and Fatwallet.com are two good sites.  You can also set something up so that you receive an email alert if anything comes up with your designated keywords (Like "Home Depot" and "Lowes")

5. Use sales ads from competitors for price matching

6. Go to the customer service desk in a Home Depot and tell the rep that you are planning on making a large purchase and want to see if there are any coupons or discounts available.  This has been reported to work for some people.  Approach the desk when it is not busy.

7. Use a cash back credit card for all your purchases

8. Purchase Home Depot coupons through eBay.  I have not tried this, but many people have used this method successfully.  A 10% off coupon sells for $2 or $3 on eBay (shipping is normally free), so it's worth a try if you are planning to make a large purchase.

A couple of notes:

- Many of these same techniques can be used for Lowe's as well.  In fact, you can register at LowesMoving.com for 10% off on purchases up to $5,000

- Incentives from eBates and Upromise cannot both apply to the same purchase.  However, I am registered for both programs because each has its strengths.
