Home Security Systems with Wireless Sensors
When our house was built, I didn't bother to have any pre-wiring done for a security system. Shortly after we moved in, we were notified by our home insurance provider that a monitored security system was a requirement. I researched several home security companies and decided to go with ADT. I've used ADT for about three years now and I've been very happy.
Some Benefits of our Home Security System:
- It is almost completely wireless. It turns out I never needed any pre-wiring done. All the door, window, and motion sensors operate via radio frequency. The only wiring that needed to be done was from the keypads to the control center.

- The keypads are touchscreen. Most of the alarm system keypads that I've seen in the past are ugly! It's like having a Commodore 64 mounted on your wall. ADT has a touchscreen keypad that looks very sleek.

- We have a keyfob that arms/disarms the system.

- ADT had lots of options for sensors. Besides the standard sensors and motion detectors, we are using a combo sensor that trips if the glass breaks of the door is opened. Also, there are sensors for garage doors. We chose not to get them, but after reading this blog post on garage door security, maybe a should reconsider
- The system is easy to upgrade. If I ever want to add additional sensors, a technician can come to our house, attach the sensors to the windows/doors/walls with a silicone adhesive, and program the control center to communicate wirelessly to the new sensors.
- ADT systems have a cellular backup as an option. Choosing this option gets you a cellular antenna installed somewhere (like your attic). ADT is constantly pinging your security system through your phone line. If a connection fails (say for example, a burglar clips your phone line outside your house), ADT will immediately switch over to cellular communication with your home security system.
- Finally, and perhaps the best deterrent of all, are the window stickers and yard signs saying that you home is protected by a home security system. I have heard and read over and over again that most burglars bypass homes with security systems and move on to softer targets. Maybe that's why those 'Beware of Dog' have always been so popular!

Here's an article on choosing a security alarm company and system.

Most of my neighbors have them and I’m seriously considering getting a few of the Adt signs I’ve seen online at ebay myself.

great info. will definitely reconsider my options as well.
