How to Build a Home Gym: Part 2
Part 1 of this post can be found here.
Paint the Walls
Now that you've chosen the room and taken care of the floor, it is time to tackle the walls. If you installed a rubber floor with colored specks in it, you may want to pick a wall color that compliments the specks. I chose a steel blue wall color. It's a soothing color- which I like, but maybe you will want something that gets you more fired up.
Install Mirrors
Once your walls are painted, hang some mirrors. Here's what I did- I bought four 3' X 5' mirrors (non-beveled) from Home Depot along with a couple of tubes of mirror adhesive (Liquid Nails is one brand, there are many others). I also purchased 35 linear feet of window casing. I painted the window casing the color of my base molding- white, cut a 12' section of the casing (measured on the inside), and mounted it on the wall just below where I wanted my mirrors. This acted as a shelf for the mirrors as I glued them to the wall. Read the instructions on the adhesive. Essentially, you are going to apply the glue in globs on the back of the mirror and then mash the mirror against the wall until the glue sets. The bottom casing makes the installation much easier and ensures that all the mirrors are aligned. When all the mirrors have been glued to the wall, install the remaining three sides of casing to complete the mirror frame.

As an alternative to the installation described above, you can hang some pre-framed mirrors or simply lean a few against the wall.
If you want entertainment, add a stereo or mount a TV.

Add some wall art- or maybe a magazine rack.

Finally, bring in the exercise equipment. Don't forget surge protectors for your electrical equipment.
Have fun!
