How to Lubricate a Squeaky Door Hinge
Every homeowner will experience the joy of a squeaky door hinge every now and then. Here are two methods to fix the problem- an easy method that usually works and a slightly more difficult method that should always work.
The Easy Method
Get a can of lubricant or WD-40 (WD-40 stands for Water Displacement- 40th Formula) that has a tip or straw designed for precision applications. Spray a small amount into the hinge joint- you may want to hold a rag o paper towel underneath the hinge to prevent dripping. Then, work the lubricant into the hinge by opening and closing the door several times. Repeat on other hinges as necessary.

The Slightly More Complicated Method
Using a nail set or small screwdriver and hammer, remove the hinge pin by hammering from the bottom of the pin.

Once the pin is out, clean all the parts and apply a light coat of WD-40. Replace the hinge pin.

WD-40 is a light lubricant. If it doesn't stop the squeak, you may need a slightly heavier lubricant. I do not recommend graphite. If you use graphite, you will end up with a fine coat of black powder all over everything.
