The Basic Toolkit: An Overview

This is the first article in a series outlining the basic tools necessary to make a good basic home improvement toolkit.  In subsequent articles, I will explain the tools in detail- why I believe each tool make a good addition to the toolkit and the different types of each tool.

The idea behind a basic toolkit is this-

You are on your way to begin a home repair or home improvement project and you want to grab some tools to take with you.  A basic toolkit will contain a broad suite of tools that will accomplish 80% of your home improvement or home repair tasks.  Granted, you will need special tools for special projects.  But think about it, most of your home-related work can be completed with a set of tools that can fit into a small bag.

I have a couple of toolboxes and a few tool bags that contain a wide variety of tools.  However, there is a particular bag that I always reach for when I start a project.  This is my basic toolkit.

As this series progresses, you may have some ideas on how to improve my basic toolkit- and I welcome them.  Please add a comment to this post or any other post in the series.
